Fighting Wrinkles in Your 20s

When you are in your 20s, your skin is still fresh, smooth, and young-looking. And it should be. But that doesn’t mean you aren’t a candidate for good wrinkle treatments. If you become health savvy in your 20s, you will already be ahead of the game when wrinkles and other signs of aging start to creep up. So take the proactive approach and start fighting wrinkles and skin damage now. You have an advantage of preventing wrinkles before they form!

Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Diets rich in vegetables and fruits are essential to maintaining your skin’s health. Many vegetables and berries serve as powerful antioxidants, defending your skin against free radicals and other environmental stressors.

Drink plenty of water. Drinking water will help keep your skin moisturized from the inside, helping your skin stay resilient against wrinkles. It is also important to limit the amount of alcohol and caffeine you consume. I know that’s not the easiest thing to do in your 20s, but both alcohol and caffeine can negatively impact the health of your skin.

Use gentle facial cleansers and moisturizers. As we enter our 20s, many of us are still using those harsh facial cleansers that promise clear, glowing skin. The fact is that most of those acne clearing products irritate and over dry our skin, making it more susceptible to wrinkles and other damage in the future. For the long-term health of your skin, it is best to use gentle cleansers that don’t contain harsh ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Use a moisturizer that does not make your skin feel greasy or contribute to more breakouts. It may be best to just use spot treatments for treating any breakouts, leaving the harsh ingredients only for the problem areas. Damage to your skin now could likely break down your skin’s natural elasticity and lead to wrinkles in the future.

Avoid heavy makeup. Most people in their 20s don’t really need a ton of makeup, but marketing and retouched celebrity photos have made us all believe we do. A lot of progress has been made when it comes to foundations that won’t clog your pores or suffocate your skin. Try to go makeup free as much as possible. But if you need to cover up uneven tone or texture, be sure to find a water-based, non-comedogenic foundation. Mineral powder makeup or tinted moisturizers are a better option for people in their 20s who just require light coverage.

Anti-wrinkle creams. At this point, you probably haven’t seriously considered the benefits of using an anti-wrinkle cream. Why should you? You are only in your 20s. Those wrinkles haven’t shown up on your face just yet. The truth is that most of the effective wrinkle creams on the market contain ingredients that will protect your skin from damage and nourish it for an overall healthier complexion. Using a wrinkle cream in your 20s can significantly improve the health of your skin and help prevent wrinkles from ever forming. You will thank yourself for investing in a good wrinkle cream in your 20s when you are still getting carded for the senior citizen discounts in your 80s!
